Andy P. Lim is a founder, president, and senior partner based in Northfield & Associates’ Toronto office and a core leader of our growth and innovation work, driving the firm’sstrategic vision and governance standards. He provides strategic and creative counsel to CEOs, senior executives, and board members looking to de-risk and accelerate change. With over two decades experience consulting complex organizations across North America on executive and broad-based compensation including related governance considerations, transforming organizations, unlocking new growth, and taking a purpose-driven and customer-centric approach to addressing strategic opportunities and challenges with a focus on the consumer and retail sectors in particular. Andy is a distinguished advisor to boards and executive leadership teams of many of Canada’s leading large and mid-sized companies, spanning both publicly traded and privately held organizations. Renowned for a direct and pragmatic approach, Andy leverages deep business acumen to address complex challenges in compensation strategy, design, and governance, delivering solutions that align with organizational objectives and drive sustainable success. Prior to forming Northfield & Associates, he worked in Limson Corporation’s Toronto offices leading many of the practice’s large client relationships.
Andy’s international business experience includes advising multinational corporations on cross-border compensation structures, global talent management, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with regional regulations and cultural nuances. Notable engagements include guiding a Canadian firm’s expansion into Asian markets and supporting a Cambodian company with North American operations. He leverages this expertise to bring stakeholders together and drive meaningful change aligned with key business and talent priorities. He is known for providing fresh and innovative thinking with his most recent research focused on connecting environmental, social and governance (ESG) with people and pay programs.
With a versatile skill set, Andy serves clients across diverse sectors, with deep expertise in consumer and retail sectors, international business, asset management, financial services, and technology. His engagements include; advising a large North American quick-serve restaurant on the design, execution, and scaling of new B2B and B2C businesses beyond food; working with a global grocery retailer to develop, pilot, and launch a bold new innovative business and business model, including a subscription service spanning a grocery, apparel, and financial services ecosystem; advising a North American airline in understanding customers’ and non customers’ needs, values, and mental models to conceive, pilot, and scale an all new customer centric loyalty program and experience, including personalized, flexible, easy-to-use features; leading a capability building program and strategic-planning effort for the strategy and transformation functions of an performant brand; conducting a strategic and operational review of the international business of a major integrated international company, assessing potential strategic options, including sale or acquisition, and identifying value creation opportunities through operational improvements in generation, transmission, and distribution sectors; collaborating with a major electricity company in a confidential M&A with significant implications for the company’s size and scale, including estimating potential operational and strategic synergies and developing a vision for the integrated company’s investment program; analyzing cost and schedule projections for a project portfolio, including detailed cost benchmarking and identifying cost reduction levers to support the final investment decision; analyzing a confidential M&A for a top-tier utility, with significant implications for the utility’s size and scale, including estimating potential operational and strategic synergies and developing a vision for the integrated utility’s investment program; reviewing the investment program of a major integrated utility to improve capital productivity by enhancing capital investment planning, reviewing design specifications and standards, improving execution, and reducing costs through better procurement; developing and implementing a new capital investment planning process for a leading utility, providing greater transparency on the investment budget for transmission and distribution investments, enabling refocused capital spending, and increasing risk mitigation for the same expenditure.
